Trip out to a campsite

As you all know, we are planning on a camping trip for a vacation this year. So, we decided that we wanted to check out a site that someone had mentioned to us.

Hiwassee/Ocoee area, Gee Creek. It is about 6 miles north of Benton, in the Delano area. I know this area because this is where the Amish Farm is at, actually taking a left would lead us there, taking a right would take us to the campground.

We took off to the right, and drove down this lovely little quiet road. It was so pretty. Ended up in the camping area. Now, this time of year, we did expect it to be full, all of these sites are first come, first serve. But there were several that were empty.

We drove around the campground and all the sites have a grill and table. Some were set a little more under the trees than others. There were heated bathrooms, a play ground for the children and the kids can ride bikes all around the area. Very family oriented place. Quiet and seemed very relaxing.

On our way out we took another turned and ended up at the Hiwassee River, the same river that we were fishing at. But way down the other end. This was a more quiet area, clearer water, colder water, and shallow water. I loved it.

I loved seeing kids riding bikes, in the playground, playing in the water, taking hikes. Something that you don't see anymore, anywhere.

That is what vacation is, time away, no computers, no phones, just bikes, grills, books and water.

I loved the scenery around here. It was gorgeous. Funny, I live about 45 minutes away from this area and never in the 20 years I have lived here, have never been out there. I didn't even know it was there.

There are several places in the mountains that I haven't been to, and I want to go see this stuff.

This is right now our vacation destination for Summer of 2009 and I can't wait.
